How do you get to the nu and bolts on fittings on the other side the liner of an 83 Oday 28? I have several small leaks that i've been trying to fix.

I see some of you are looking at this post, Please let me know if you know how to get to the other side of the lining. The only way I see now is to cut holes in it! Got a better way?

These boats were not meant to be taken apart and it was assumed they would never leak. Ha! Which fittings exactly are you having a problem with? Handrails? On the 37 they are through-bolted to interior hand rails. Offhand, I can't think of anything else that actually goes through the headliner that I did not myself install. I cut big plugs for those items (vents) and found that the deck and headliner are the pieces of bread in a balsa wood sandwich. In other words, there is not a separate head liner. ('82 vintage boat). Uou might try using BoatLife liquid sealant if you know the origin of the leaks.

I think you just have to cut holes. That's all I've been able to do. Let me know if you find a better way.

I had to cut holes after measuring very carefully and then getting a flex head ratchet.
The holes were made with a 2" hole saw and were perfect size to fit my new backing plates to replace the weenie washers Oday installed for the stanchion base's

Thanks for the reply, I thought that was the only way, but was looking for a better way to get into the lining. How much room is there between the lining and the deck by the stanchion in the vee berth?

Is the bottom of that stanchion even accessible? On our 37CC the stanchion bases nearly all are glassed in on the bottom making repair in some locations impossible.

On my '79 O'Day 28 the bolts for sail tracks and the traveller are on top of these items, which go thru the liner where nuts are attached. Bolts and nuts for stanchions are also bolted thru the deck and the liner. The nuts are hard to find because they're located in the corner of the walls and ceilings (or whatever they're called on boats). They may be covered up with the material that lines the walls.
