overall weight ????

Yikes !We're thinking of purchasing a nice, used 1972 Catalina 22.Can any owner confirm the overall weight of the boat with trailer with keel etc.I have seen many, many specs but none are clear. Also, what vehicles are used to tow their boats?? Any help is most appreciated.

Swing or fin keel?

As there are sveral hundred pounds more ballast on a fin keel as opposed to a swing keel, it is important to specify which style of keel the C-22 has that you are interested in purchasing.

Catalina 22 Weight

I have a 1976 Catalina 22 with a swing keel. I believe it goes at about 2,300 pounds. I also bought a new Performance trailer in 1998 when I first acquired the boat (it was in the water and I had to haul it out myself). I'd estimate the trailer weight at about 500 pounds. I have a 1994 Toyota 4Runner and it easily hauled the load the few times I've trailered the boat. I sailed it wet after spending a year getting it seaworthy.

i think with swing keel, the wt. is around 2500lbs

at least thats what i remember reading somewhere. I've only towed mine once so far. that was coming from where i bought it to the backyard. But, i own a full size dodge van w/v8 power. Unless i looked in the mirror, I really didnt notice the boat back there, I had no sway whatsoever,and coming to a stop was no problem.I stayed pretty close to the speed limit cuz of the condition of the tires, but there were times i was doing 65. the only reason I'm not sailing is I am doin work to the keel and a few other little projects the boat needs. I do hear of others pulling the same boat with smaller vehicles with no problems, but for me, the van works well.  good luck.....
