It is official. Spring is on its way. As of today, February 4th, the mean temperature in Portland has risen 1 degree to 23° and will continue to rise from here on out. We had a beautiful 10° sunrise to clear skies and we will have 10 hours of sunlight. I can actually walk home in the light now.

Time to start thinking about commissioning. I think the mast will go back up 4/16. I have a good weekend of work to do on it though.

Believe me, I know. I have seen it snow in June here. This was just to give a spark of hope after the recent megastorm that hammered the country this week.

I'm with you Tim. I've been looking at mean temps in NH and Vt. for other reasons and the lowest mean temp has passed in a climatologic sense. It doesn't mean it won't be cold again. Just that we've turned the corner and it will be getting warmer and that's great news!

I have no problem with the cold, I just want to start sailing my new home again. But first, some skiing and snowshoeing in Vermont in a couple of weeks.

We're on the + side of freezing today up here on the frozen tundra. It's good to see my monster ice dams shrinking! Two weeks from tomorrow, we're doing a 10k snowshoe race across the bay that is our normal cruising grounds on Lake Superior. After that, THAW BABY, THAW!

we have 1 more winter and we are doing it in Baltimore so hopefully a little milder...then we are gone to the lands of sunshine for good! It's the only thing keeping me going at this time. In 8 years in our marina...this is the worst!

I really think that you are being a little overly optomistic with your "almost summer" idea.
Yesterday was only 76 degrees here in Santa Cruz and today they forcarst that it is going to drop all the way down to 74. BRRRR!

Summer is here. Sitting in the cockpit right now. 85° and sunny. Just had some brunch, the dog is snoozing on deck and I plan to join him soon!

At least the days are getting longer. That's one thing that really helps me through to spring.

Put more points up on the board for the live aboard life.

Only 1.5 miles away, I just finished chipping and shoveling away the bare minimum of ice necessary for us to be able to live here through the next few weeks. If there was ANYTHING wrong with my heart, I'd be dead now. It is nice though, in this health care system, to be able to get such a definitive test of a vital system for free. Of course, the rotator cuff surgery may set me back a bit.

Tim,
My wife and I were in DiMillo's Saturday night celebrating and I looked out to see your boat getting drenched with rain. Hope our music didn't keep you up too late. :D:D

No worries "All U Get". We were out at the hibachi bar. The cover keeps us pretty dry. Next time stop by and say Hi.

With a temp of 11 below and a wind chill of -26 today my earlier optimism seems sadly misplaced. I am deep in the winter doldrums and spring seems a long, long, long way away...

Potl ...

just a week ago we were having a night out at Lord Fletchers on Lake Minnetonka, catching the broomball action ... spring is definitely a long way off in your neck of the woods!
