I am entertaining the idea of buying a spinnaker from Thailand, Rolly Tasker. It is my understanding that their method of payment is a fund transfer to a bank account which they have supplied me in Thailand. Not to sure how comfortable I am with this. Actually I am pretty uncomfortable with it, use to CC for protection. So my questions are:

How many out there have had dealings with RollyTasker in Thailand.
How was payment made?
How did the whole thing go?

Got my Rolly Tasker...

...through National Sail Supply (Florida?). I corresponded with I guy named Dirk if I remember correctly. All was done over the internet. All went well. Got my sail as advertised. I purchased a mainsail.

Here is the odd part. The quote I recieved form RT direct was 10% cheaper the the quote from National Sail who will sent me a RT sail, most likely made in Thailand. How did you pay National Sail, if I may ask, check, CC, bank transfer? If they take CC I can see that being the difference.

I have bought 3 rolly tasker sails through sailwarehouse.com and always satisfied. Very good cruising sails. They do offer the option of full custom features but you need to do your own measurements.

Ive bought 3 Rolly Tasker sails from Dirk at National sails in FL. I found the sails to be of good quality and Dirk delivered as stated. This was several years ago. The terms were
1/3 deposit and the balance to be paid when the sails arrived at his place of business in FL.
The 10% differential is probably his commission as an agent for
Rolly Tasker. It was worth the 10% to me to have someone to act in my behalf as opposed to dealing directly with someone in Thailand that probably dosent speak english

National Sail Supply!!

Dirk is da BOMB!!! I have ordered many, many sails from him and the quality & shape is top notch. I will be ordering my new main sail from him too. The quote was less than half my local loft. Of course my local loft still gets all my repair work and is currently working on my 150 genny... But I can almost get a new head sail and main for the price of just a local main sail..

You need to keep in mind that Dirk needs to make some money for this convenience. He takes credit cards.

Another thing that you may not realize is that MANY sailmakers and BRANDED sail companies use RT sails in Phuket to make their price point cruising sails. RT Thailand is the largest loft in the world so they are not a fly-by-night operation.

Dirk also specs his sails differently than other lofts who sell RT sails. I have seen RT sails from "other" RT agents and they were double stitched not triple, no hand sewn leather etc. etc.. RT will build what you or an agent orders and Dirk specs a better built sail than most RT agents and for less or the same money..

I'd be surprised if you called an outfit as large at RT and they couldn't scare up a salesperson who is fluent in english. Give them a call or email them. If you have been on their website you can see that their facility is substantial and they have been in the business forever. One warning though...you might find that a couple of long phone calls to them, which may be required to iron out the details...might wipe out any cost savings. I'd take Mainesail's advice, as usual...there are a lot of nuances to ordering a sail and if Dirk has his stamp of approval I am sure his experience will make it worth your while.

My boat came with a fairly new North main and it has features that I might not have spec'd out if I had ordered it that I really like, such as the fact that it is loose footed and has a built in cunningham, which is a worthwhile option. In my opinion, the loose foot really does provide better sail shape and makes sail controls on the foot much more effective. The point is that cheaper isn't always better. If you are trying to get the most for your money the guidance of a professional, especially one Mainesail will vouch for, will likely prove invaluable.

You might be able to do business by E Mail and save a lot of costly phone calls. If I was ordering I`d use Dirk at National. I think he`s worth the commision. Again: I bought 3
