Over Propped?

Hello all,

Several people have told me that the boat may be over propped. That the prop is too agressive. The previous owner mentioned that the prop is fairly new and possibly more aggressive.

I have posted a picture of the prop on the photos section of the group page. It is under the boat name "Good Things".

If anyone gets a chance, can you take a look and tell me if it looks as if this is the case for me?

Thanks,
groundhog

Hi

Just checked your photo and doesnt look too big to me. Not the standard
prop by the looks of it so I expect you have had the gearbox changed to
an MS2 or similar. Cant tell the pitch of teh prop but looks like a 12
or 13 x 10

Cheers

I am in no way an expert, but your symptoms are similar to what I observe, and I KNOW
that my prop is a bit too big. (Fortunately, it's big enough to push my boat at less than
full throttle). Could it be that either the prop is badly fouled (happened a lot to me) -
how long ago did you take the picture? How long in the water since? - or that something
impedes the easy rotation of the shaft (out of whack? gearbox worn or no oil? bad
bearings? too tight stuffing box?)? Just some suggestions to look into...

There is not enough info here. Most props have size and pitch stamped on
them. There are ways to calculate this based on boat size, weight, horsepower,
torque, etc. I would start by simply contacting the maker of your engine.
For my yanmar the company suggested the prop size and pitch,
