Hey Chuck

Have a trip planned for the end of May, with some friends of mine. Two boats. Plans are sort of loose right now but going to head over to Pennsacola/Destin areas, then hop across the panhandle towards Clearwater. Have about three weeks. Might as well join up for some or all. Will post up as plans evolve. Phil

two weeks in May

Hi Chuck I have a friend coming in from Denver for a visit in May. I thought we'd sail over to Pensacola /Destin area around second and third weeks of May. Tom S/V Miss Jenna H310

Chuck.....

Including myself, there are six or so of us planning a 10 day trip in late May. We'll leave P'goula on Friday and spend time cruising from Pirate's Cove to Destin. Dick CD EXPRESS

Passes at Orange Beach and Destin

I am basically a chicken and when going outside I have sailed fom Panama city to Pensacola and from Pensacola to Mobile. The passes at Orange Beach and Destin just look too risky. Santa Rosa sound is nice butthere is no room to tack. Choctawhatchee bay is nice but unless you run Destin pass it is a hard place to get into. Either a long motor from Pensacola or Panama city. Do any of you routinely run the passes at OB and Destin??? At Destin do you enter the bay and anchor or go into the yacht basin just before the bridge?? The Coast Pilot recommends"local Knowledge" for both of those passes.

Destin Pass is Ok for the Careful but not Desitn Harbor

The entrance to Destin Harbor is badly shoaled at unless you have a person to guide you in I would not try it for a while. Redneck beach on the southwest side of the beach is a very good spot to anchor and hang out, it does get a little noisy from the bridge traffic though. Entering the bay is possible if you are under 48'. The ditch between Choctawahatche Bay and West Bay is a really nice trip even though you have to motor the whole way through. Let me know when y'all through here and we'll meet for a beer or three or four.
