Since we are putting an a new loose footed main this season, I am contemplating upgrading the outhaul from an internal 1:1 to an internal 5:1 following the Harken setup. The boom is closed on the bottom and holds three reefing lines, outhaul, and topping lift. The reefing lines exist the boom below the gooseneck through kidney shaped push jam cleats. The new main is rigged with three reefing point. The boom is 11'6" long on a Peterson 34 sailboat and has an Annapolis Spar. Has anyone upgraded their outhaul from a 1:1 to a 5:1? Would the additional hardware tangle with the reefing lines? How did you secure the gooseneck eye to the inside on the boom?
