I'm buying a 1985 Catalina 25 Fin Keel without a motor. I was thinking a Nissan 9.8 HP Ultra-Long Shaft (25")would be a good choice. Any other suggestions? Especially dealing with shaft length? I'll mostly be sailing on Long Island sound, but may travel up and down the East River to the Atlantic, as well.

GO for the 9.8 ultra long shaft. You'll need it in a blow, especially going into the wind. Also, you will need the extra long shaft when on a port close haul.
