Outboard zinc

Hi all,

This past summer I was going to change the zinc(2) on the Honda 9.9 outboard for the dinghy. Well the zinc is stuck to the aluminum body and wouldn't budge even when tapped with a cold chisel. So I didn't replace the bolt hoping they would wear off. Any thoughts since they're still there.

Use Tefgel or Green Grease on the bolt next time. it REALLY helps. Additionally, if you keep the engine tipped with not at the dinghy dock, the anode won't wear.

That said, try soaking the area in CLR. It is safe for aluminum corrosion for at least 24 hours, and the acid should eat out the corrosion. If that does not work, get it dry and try PB Blaster.

The bolt came out, no problem. Tip the engine when I can. I think that's why it didn't wear much over the last two years. Tried PB Blaster before but will try the CLR. One bolt goes through the lower end holding a small zinc on each side. That's why I thought leaving the bolt off eventually would have the zincs fall off.
