Where do I start. Used or rebuilt. Number of cylinders and hp for a 26'. Tech support. Good or bad idea?

If you must?I hate inboards,but

Well a group for that is; http://groups.yahoo.com/group/saildriveowners/ As for me,I think inboards smell, stink, messy, niosy, vibrate, take up space, are hard to work on,cost too much, look like crap inside boat, etc. They do one thing good;if you are were you should not be,and try to motor in big waves(you should be sailing under short sail anyway)than the prop comes out of water less.

Don,

If you could give us some more info on your boat. What is it? What's the displacement? Was it ever fitted with a diesel? Where do you sail? Pat McCartin Inland Marine Diesel imd_ga@hotmail.com

Why?

Unless your boat previously had an inboard and you want to restore it, why would you even want to do this modification? Replacing the outboard would be so much cheaper and easier. Save yourself the headaches.

Outboard to inboard?

Somehow I get the feeling that once you start this conversion you'll be wondering why you didn't sell the boat as is and buy one that already had the inboard you want. For starters, there are no engine mounts built into the hull. That will be a major undertaking on a boat with a finished interior and only the first of many hurdles to overcome.
