A length of pvc pipe with the end cut laterally in 4 places and a hose clamp works just as well.

That looks just like the one I have. It works great for the dinghy if I wanna sit forward to get it to plane but on my M25 the motor sits too low behind the transom for it to be useful. It just sticks up and gets in the way if I want to swivel the motor.

We can make almost anything with PVC! There are even home built catamaran made with the stuff.
