I've posted this question on Iboats outboard repair forum but figured an answer might come quicker here. Replacing a snapped gear shift lever on Nissan/Tohatsu 5hp. Have all the bolts out on the power head, it's loose from the lower cowling, but is still stuck to the shaft/drive train. Would like to know what's left to do to free the power unit so I can replace the shift lever? Thanks, Mac

It may be.....

I took my nissan/tohatsu apart last year, and if I understand your problem correctly, i may have an answer for you. If I remember right, there should be a rubber plug half way up the outside of the shaft. If you undo this you will see a linkage inside that must be undone to seperate the parts. I hope this helps.
