Catalina Capri 22 Cincinnati
I am in the process of installing a Remote Control Box on our Capri 22, with a Honda 5Hp motor. I'll then to be able to shift Forward/Reverse as well as control the Throttle from the standing position while docking, without having to reach backward to do so! This will not only improve safety, but will also be a great convenience when docking. I know Honda has a Kit available, to convert the motor over to cables, for about $70.00. I also just found a Honda "NOS" Remote Control Box, which I plan on mounting either on the Cockpit side or the Stern Rail. I've searched the forum but haven't found any posts on the subject. I can't believe this! If anyone has any experience doing this, your comments/pictures would be appreciated.

I did this with a Honda 9.9 tiller motor. The dealer told me I had to trade the motor in for a remote model.
I went on to one of the outboard motor parts web sites and printed out the microfiche for both versions of the same model. I subtracted the tiller version from the remote version and ordered those parts, plus some spares, water pump and so on. I then played around with the parts to figure out how they could be assembled and fit on to the motor. I then removed the parts I didn't need and installed the new pieces. On this boat I had Edson cables for throttle and shifter. I removed the start and kill button from the tiller handle and mounted them under the cockpit seat. With the addition of a linkage from the rudder to the outboard it made a docking a new experience.
Don't give up it can be done and is well worth the investment ! Bob
