I use an outboard to power my sailboat. I'm concerned about theives taking the motor when the boat is on my mooring. Any suggestions for the best way to lock an outboard that this on a transom bracket? Thanks in advance.

Large lock and large chain

D, I would use a chain and locks large enough that bolt cutters won't cut it. It may take two locks. One on the motor and one on the motor bracket.( if you bolt the chain to the motor mount, the eye bolt can be removed) you may have to drill a hole in the bracket for the lock on the mount. r.w.landau

What Size engine

You didn't mention the size boat or engine, but a friend of mine has a similar problem and he just takes it off and stores below while gone. I think his is about a 6hp. It's a pain but it works.

Locking Bar

The marine stores sell a bar that slides over the locking nuts and is held in place by an inaccessible pad lock. The bar is blue in color.

Add 4 bolts in addition to locks

In addition to locks, I added 4 bolts through the bracket(the kind without screw slots on the heads)and double nuts. Way I figure it, they look at all the trouble it would take to steal mine & go elsewhere! Kryptonite bike lock cables work well on Honda's since the standard bar does not fit certain models.
