Outboard prop

The prop on my 2.5 Yamaha started to slip at high speed so took it off and went to local prop shop snd low and behold no new prop ..we phoned around town and none available ..prop guy told me of a trick he has used..carve out the old rubber ehich eas vulcanised in onto the bushing clesn prop snd bushing with sandpaper and acetone ..set on a flat surface eith bushing in place ..set a bolt in the bushing hole snd mix up some two part epoxy and pour between bushing and prop..did not beleive it but it works

There will be no give between the prop and the hub. If you ever hit something; rock, log, or sand bar, The lower unit, shaft, or gear, at least the shear pin, will break.

There are reasons manufacture uses rubber.

I'm satisfied that it would work to spin the prop, but outside of that, I really don't see it. The question of balance comes to mind, as the new hub would have to be dead centered. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure it CAN be done, but it needs to be very, very close. A prop out of pitch or balance would literally shake the motor off of the back of the boat.
And although I really do not know for certain, but I've always perceived that rubber bushing as a type of harmonic balance.
However, if it's a useless prop, you have little to lose by trying it. I would.
