Please excuse this novice question. I recently completed sailing lessons. The Ensign boats we used had no motors. Very good for learning docking etc. I'm looking at an O Day 222 to purchase. This has a 6 hp outboard. Now for the possibly foolish question. While under outboard power what's the best way to steer? Do I keep the motor straight and use the tiller and rudder to turn? Or do I have to turn the motor as well? Thanks for your time!

Keep the motor straight under way, but with the outboard you have an added maneuverability advantage; by moving the rudder and motor in tandem you can spin the boat on a dime in tight quarters. My slip requires a very tight turn, made easier by this arrangement.
Just a quick second of what Indaysailor said. I had a 222 and used the same approach. Motor strait unless I needed a very sharp turn.
