Hi Matey's I goofed on my mixture. Supposed to be 50:1 on 9.9 Merc, I put in 25:1. So now what???? I put in can of 44k cleaner and ran engine for about 1.5 hrs. Some gunk came out. Changed spark plugs. But motor is still sluggish. Any suggestions???? Thanks so much JP

extra oil shouldn't hurt

I had a similar problem with my 2-stroke snowmobile engine - the plugs may get fouled but a quick cleaning should resolve the issue. Did you gap the new plugs according to the engines specifications? If not this could be your problem.

How much

I used to do this all the time. How much gas are we talking about. If its 2-3 gallons. I would just dump it in your cars gas tank and fill up the rest. I have a Jeep Cherokee with a 20 something gallon tank. 2-3 gallons to 20 makes it so deluted it doesn't make a difference. Or you could wait till it's half gone then fill it up with double the gas. Wallah 50:1.

I agree with many of the other posts. When

you break in a new engine or start a rebuilt one, standard practice on a 2 cycle is to double the oil mixture for 10-15 hours.

Simple ?

I know that this is probably over simplifying your question but did you adjust the mix first before trying to remedy the problem? If not, you need to double the volume of the mix with gasoline alone to achieve the 50:1 If you have done that, I would continue to run it for at least a half an hour, After that, I would clean the plug again or replace it and try again.

I have always run my outboard at 40:1...no problem. The very worst that could happen is abit of oil fouling on the plugs. Just pull them and clean them with a shot of ether. You can clean around the bottom of the insulator with a small diameter wire. While you have the plugs out, check the "gap." Good Luck!
