Hi all, I need info about motor mounts. I wish I had snapped a pic, and ment to but forgot. I have a 87 H23 with a stainless adjustable type mount. when I brought the boat home it didn't have a motor. I have since gotten a 1972 Johnson 6hp long shaft motor. when I hung it on and lowered it, it didn't seem to be low enough, so I cut probably 2" off the black plastic mount. Still it looks like it needs to be quite a bit lower. Any help is greatly appreciated, if possible pictures of your motor would be a big help. I will hopefully get a pic of mine tomorrow and post it. Thanks Glide

Not sure about your 23, but for my 25.5 I have an extra long 25" shaft motor. Can you find out from the previous owner, what size motor they had on there?

The long shaft Nissan 5hp came on my h23. 90% of the time it is fine but wish I had the xlong shaft.

I have the 20" Long Shaft Mercury 8HP on my H23 and most of the time it's alright, but I agree, when the waves are big, I wish I had went with the 25" Extra Long shaft. I changed my mount to a Garelick mount and I installed it as low as I could absolutely go. The bottom of the motor mount plate rides about an inch above the water when it's fully down.

I know mine will have to be lowered. Sorry I cant remember to get the pic. I probably should have gotten a extra long motor but didn't want to spend the money. I may only use the boat a time or 2 a year, I have a trolling motor that I used to launch and load one of the only 2 times I have been on the water. and it did OK so the 6 hp should be so much better....

i have an 87 23' as well. it has a garelick adjustable mount. not sure if you can get any dimensions but here is a pic. its low enough where i can get the engine all the way down which works more efficiently and is much quieter. its a 8.0 hp 1995 Evinrude yachttwin, 25" shaft two stroke

Mine is no where near that low, I cant remember to get the pic. I have some aluminum to use on the outside of the transom and hope to use advantec on the inside as a backer. I think it need to be lowered 4'', hopefully it wont be so low it makes operating it uncomfortable.

The 23 came with a fixed bracket on the stbd side of the transom originally. If you are going to ever put on an adjustable outboard motor bracket, there are a couple of things to remember. First, get the one designed for the four stroke engines as they are heavier and will accommodate the weight load vs. the older styles designed for two stroke.

Secondly, get the very long shaft so you do not have to place the new bracket so far down which is a pain in the fiddlesticks.

Finally, always let the engne run out of fuel after each time. Sure helps to keep that carb clean.
