Sailing and racing in Charlotta Harbor ,Fl. my outboard motor cooling system gets plugged, but not a hundred percent. Runs on the hot side when throttled up. I do fush with ear muffets after each use. WHAT CAN I USE TO RUN THROUGH THE MOTOR TO LOOSEN THE SALT DEPOSITS?? WITH OUT COMPLETE TEAR DOWN??

Fresh Water Flush

If you are able to "fresh water flush" after each use...salt should be a problem. I have a 6 HP outboard on my "22" and am only able to flush at the end of the season (Sept.). This motor had been on my boat since 1999...no problems. I have been using outboards since 1972 on my "22".....on my first engine, a Johnson 3 HP an access plate corroded on the side of to cylinder. Cost me $6 to replace...not bad for 12 years of use!

motor killer

no better way to kill a motor than to let it overheat. t-stats failing shut, impellers wearing out & cooling system clogged up will do it. Maintenence is the key to keeping your outboard happy.
