As I got older, I thought I would like a new motor that didn't weigh 75lbs like my old 2 cycle, 2 cylinder, mercury with electric start (which I never used). I bought a new 4 cycle, 6HP, single cylinder Mercury that weighed 55 lbs. I used it twice to get the sailboat out of the dock, and took it back and got a 9 HP, two cylinder motor that weighed 84lbs. The single cylinder engine vibrated the 23' sailboat so much, that it had to go!

I can only say one thing about my 1999 Johnson two stroke long shaft attached to the engine tilt bracket on my O'Day 222, and I really don't know if it holds true to other outboard engines of the four stroke variety. I never need to touch my transom bracket that the outboard is mounted on. My engine tilts on it's own bracket with the lower unit completely out of the water.
Your O'Day 222 came with a transom block similar to mine and I'm almost certain that any two stroke Johnson or Evenrude outboard can do the same thing.
I don't know but, to me this is a big plus. The built in engine tilt has always worked on my outboard. I really can't say that about my transom bracket. I've had them freeze up or get so stiff that you had to fight it to get it raised.
The transom block should get the engine head out far enough to be able to do this on your boat. If you can find a four stroke engine that will tilt on its own bracket and have the clearance to do it on the back of your boat without having to engage the engine bracket, it will be a big plus for you because I think that it's not only quicker but its whole lot easier.

My 8 hp Sailmaster weighs 68 pounds, IIRC. Its more than enough to wrestle over the gunwale. Imagine my surprise after carrying it from the far end of the marina up to the entrance, and seeing they had a dolly. DOH!
I wonder if you could rig an extension off the boom, if you could haul the motor out to hang it on the mount.
