Hey Saliors.... Noobie here. I am thinking to get a outboard motor for my 14.2. What size of motor do I need? I am thinking to get a Honda 4 stroke 2HP long shaft. What do you think? TIA. Later,

Watch the Weight

Tia: Watch the weight. The worst place to put weight on a boat is on the ends. From our experience, Honda motors are really heavy. We have a little 2 HP long shaft Mariner that we use on our dinghy and really like it. I put a webbed strap onto the top of it, so we can lower it onto the dinghy like a purse. It is a 2 cycle which uses the same mixture that our other boat motor does. If I were to get another motor though, I would get a 4 cycle one. Does Nissan make a 2 HP, 4 cycle motor? Another thought, you probably won't be going that far with your 14 by motoring, so a 2 cycle might be the answer for you. They usually are considerably lighter and cheaper. It took me years to find ours. It was several years old, but never used. The dealer's relative bought it for use on a canoe, and never used it. I hope these thoughts help, or gets at least get a discussion started. Aldo

Going for a Honda

Thanks Aldo. It turns out Honda 2 HP 4 cycle is the lightest motor around, so I think I will be OK. It sells for $725 and not bad at all for Honda Motor. I am going to get it next week, even though we got a few inches of snow last nite. :) Later,
