They may cowling covers which you can buy. These are fabric that protects against and scratches. Check the web for these.

Alternatively, you can have a Sunbrella cover made your canvas shop.

You can take the cowling off and paint it.

Or you can do a "refresh" to the motor.. I bought this 1967 Johnson for $50 .. It had a lot of patina from use in duck hunting.. Repainted the cowl with epoxy paint and put on new decals.. I do have a cover I made for transport and storage.

Ok. I do polish and wax the cowling on my 75 hp Merc. It is new, and I like it shiny.
I have painted them, but beware, the price of the replacement stickers might shock you. Hence, sticker shock.

You could also use a little touch-up paint to cover scratches. Truly, we learn to live with some imperfection, but I am one who likes to have a really nice looking boat. Of course, I take care that it operates well too.
