I just bought a Cat27 and had a fiasco trying to bring it to my home port. The motor bracket (holding a Yamaha 9.9Hp outboard) was twisting, elevating, riding too low in the water...basically making me curse the day I bought an outboard (did I mention the six-footers and 20 knot winds). Before I try to sell the blasted outboard and find a rebuilt diesel, does anyone have a strong recomendation for a motor bracket that they know works well. I thought about mounting it permanently through the transom, but I've got three little kids and I don't want to sacrifice my swim ladder. My undying gratitude to whomever has the answer...and maybe a nice bottle of Scotch depending on your tastes. Jeff

See the experts!

Hi Jeff. I got a very servicable mount from West Marine for my Evinrude 9.9 four stroke. Suggest you check out the Sailor's Forum on Th Catalina 25-250 Association website There has been a lot of discussion regarding the relative merits of different engine/ mount combinations. You can get there from the links on this site.

Don't give up on the outboard

Cuz you'll rue the day you bought a used inboard! You'll lose a TON of storage, plus the expense & hassle. There are several very sturdy outboard brackets out there - follow George's advice & ask West Marine (or your local chandlery) about which is best for your needs & expected uses (such as 6 footers & 20 knts). And above all, have fun! LaDonna

Jeff, I agree- West Marine is a good resource. The guys in my store really know their stuff. I would look into one of their mounts. In addition, you might want to look into a shaft extension, if Yamaha makes them. A C-27 owner across the dock from me has one, and swears by it for foul weather, as it allows the prop to stay in the water in higher seas. Then again... I do love my atomic 4....

c27 hav a unusual design for the motor mount my 1974 has a through the transom mount that could amputate fingers esily. I am considering the electric motor lift sold by west marine because the motor is difficult to reach

Garillick (sp?) Mount

I had a c-25 with a 9.9hp Johnson sailmaster longshaft before moving up to a c-30. This mount is sold at West. Do not get the model for a long shaft, I did not put mine low enough in the water. I worked great for over 5 years on the ocean, in conditions like you mentioned. Questions? dbousquet@aol.com C-30 #5367 C'est Sea Bon
