I would like to install a lift for the outboard motor used on the tender for our Hunter 36 sailboat. Recommendations, info or, better yet - pictures, from other Hunter owners who have installed theirs would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Garhauer makes a very strong, good looking, cost effective model. I really like ours. These are not boat-specific at all. A Google search will get you the other vendors. Good luck.

It is a 5 hp motor less than 50 lbs. But I would like it to be enough to be used as man over board retrieval. We won't be adding davits.

If it was just the outboard I would suggest the one I installed as it takes the engine directly off the boat's rail right onto the dinghy's transom (photo below). But as a man-overboard retrieval you're going to need something real hefty. The Garhauer may not even make it as it rate for 150 lbs but with a halyard helping you should be ok.

If you aren't going to install davits, is there a possibility of fabricating an aluminum bar , or stainless tube, which attaches to, and extends out past the end of the boom?

We have davits and they work great to lift the motor on and off the dinghy. If we are not going far I'll usually just leave the motor on the dinghy on the davits, really simplifies life with a dog on board. The dinghy is high enough we can raise and lower the helm seat, open the swim platform lockers, go for a swim, or have friends come aboard under the dinghy. It also saves time cleaning a dinghy bottom, and we don't loose speed towing it. I would rethink the davits option.
