Outboard lift

I had a triple by-pass not long ago and can’t lift like I used to. I’d like to put an outboard lift on the starboard side of my 2001 H380, near the stern, to lift a 6hp Merc. All of the pre-made units I’ve seen and measured, either don’t have enough height to clear the top rail, or reach to clear the toe rail. Does anyone have some photos of how they solved/mounted a motor lift on a 360? Has anyone used their boom as a lift? Thanks for your advice! AND photos! Jeffrey S/V Camille

I use the topping lift

I use my topping lift to raise and lower my outboard, lift the dinghy, and other heavy jobs. It also serves in a man-overboard role, and all those jobs are easy since the other end ca be led to a winch. The topping lift is permanently disconnected from the boom because the solid vang makes it redundant in that function, and since it goes over the aft rail of the binini it has the desirable vertical action. When not being used I attach it to the stern rail so that it ready for use and out of the way. I have a 356 but it should work equally well on a similarly equipped 380 since all you need are a B+R rig, a solid vang, a topping lift, and a bimini.

Sorry Jeffery, I did not get picture posted. However Kato on their site has a lift shown on a Hunter 41. Click on lifts then pictures/list.

Motor Lift

Jeffrey, what I did on my 380 and now use on my current boat is a boom vang from a small boat. The fixed end is attached to the end of the boom so in effect you have a block and tackle with a 4:1 purchase. On the outboard I added a Davis motor lift and use a caribiner to shackle the outboard to the block and tackle. With this rig you can easily lower the outboard on to the dingy. With a 4:1 purchase, effective weight is at most 20#. Also makes a nice hoist for groceries, jerry jugs, etc.

Garhauer

I have a '03 356 and added the Garhauer lift during the off season. The admiral dropped the 3.5 tohatsu one two many times on her toes (ouch) so I decided at the end of last season to add a motor lift. I looked at most of teh ones out there and just loved the Garhauer ones the best. I ordered the extended arm model to clear the transom and used it for teh 1st time two weeks ago. with admiral in dink, I lowered the motor and we were set. I removed the motor from the dink by myself and stowed it back on the rail in less than 5 mins. I suggest you give them a look. T
