My boat seems to be a rare breed for it's model and year. There were very few Hunter 25's 1976 built with an inboard engine. Unfortunately it's becoming the "Manhattan Project" of boats to repair my inboard. Soooo... I have decided to install an outboard, any recommendations on how to go about it? Procedures, pitfalls etc. Thanks, Mark

pop up motor mount

I would think you could install one of those "pop-up" type motor mounts on the transom. The important thing would be to do some reinforcing/glass work inside the transom to handle the stresses from the torque of the motor. I would recommend calling Hunter and asking their technical support guy Don Martin his suggestions 1-800-771-5556.

Outboard bracket

I replaced an old Evenrude Sail Master with a Honda 9.9 a few years back on 76 H25. Yhe Honda is 4 cycle, and heaver than the old motor, but the old bracket has worked OK. The nice thing about it is a gas cylinder that assists in raising it up (like a hatchback car). I added two hefty pieces of aluminum inside the transom to spread the weight some, and a staines cable attached to one of the mount bolts that I bolt to the motor just in case. The motor is not electric start, both the weight and money seemed a little high for this. It starts easy, luckily. It has a charger that keeps up with my electrical needs, the radio and depthfinder and a cabin light for a while at nite if Im crusing. My only complaint is when storing gas for a trip, you end up with some gas smell (not enough to ignite apparently) Hey, it would be great to see a picture of a 25 with an inboard, it must be a tight fit.
