Outboard HP recommendations?

The only reason I would get the electric start is if the Admiral (gf/wife) can't start the hand pull. -which many can't. (safety)
The charging I got out of my merc 9.8 was like .3 amps at 3000 rpm. very minimal. a small solar panel should take care of it.

Having sailed our 26S on most of the Great Lakes, Lake Champlain, Florida etc - go with a 9.9 extra long shaft high thrust. The boat is light and you will appreciate this motor in high winds. We had the Yamaha 9.9 HT - it had as much power in reverse as forward and parts were half the price of our Suzuki and Merc. Also had a 10 amp alternator with two stage regulator (not just diodes).

Love my Yamaha 9.9 HT. Charges my batteries, has power tilt, remote throttle, and electric start! Oh, it makes coffee too! (Ok... The remote throttle is optional).
