Outboard fuel leak

I have a 5-horse Nissan with an internal tank. It has developed a pin hole leak in the front wall of the tank. (I thought I was using more fuel than before!) Seems like an odd place; there are no seams or fittings there, just flat metal. My question is, has anyone else here dealt with this and knows a good way to patch it, or am I stuck taking it into a repair shop? I might just have to get a new tank from Nissan. I'm all for doing it yourself, but with a fuel-related item I might be inclined to let a pro deal with this. I don't want to find out how effective my fire extinguisher is.

Fuel Tank Repair

Use JB Weld. Be sure to remove and clean your tank first. JB Weld will work to repair fuel tanks, but you have to let it cure for the full 24 hours before you put fuel in the tank. If you do not observe the proper cure time, it will affect the chemical reaction; therefore, not work properly. I checked the website: www.jbweld.net, and they also make a Marine grade of jbweld...says it works with chemicals, oils, and salt water. David

What's your tank made of?

Ben: What's your fuel tank made from, metal or plastic? Also, where is Town Creek? Aldo

waterweld

David- Thanks, that looks like it might do the trick. The description of the Waterweld looked even better than the marine grade; it specifically mentions patching a fuel tank. Aldo- The tank is metal. Town creek is on the Patuxent river, on the opposite shore from Solomons Island (St. Mary's county), just upstream from the Pax river Naval Air Station.

Did you ever sail to Vera's

Ben: The Fleet 10 National Cruise was to the Patuxent River in 2001. We sailed up and down the river for about a week. For us, the most exciting sailing was to and from the Patuxent from Middle River. Did you ever sail to Vera's? That was probably the most memorable marina and restaurant of the cruise. Aldo

Vera's

I sure have. I've only had time to go there once, but it was a great sail, the perfect distance for a day sail, and a unique place to go. I wasn't impressed with the food, but the place is so fun that I will go back again when I have the chance. But this time I'll just head over to the bar, after some sandwiches on the boat. :) And St. Leonard's creek was just beautiful. I wish I could afford any of the homes I saw there.
