Have put a deposit down on a Hunter 216 and was wondering what length and horsepower outboard I will need. The motor bracket is very low to the water on this model and I am thinking of getting a short shaft Yamaha 4 stroke 4 HP.Any comments on the motor choice or on the 216 in general will be greatly appreciated! What do you think Crazy Dave Condon? Thanks ED.

Good choice but again a long shaft motor is suggested in the event that you are in big waves that might leave the back end out of the water. You will enjoy the boat. It was fun sailing the prototype back in november. Crazy Dave Condon

1.Although your mount sits pretty low, I would still go for he long shaft. If you are standing on the bow and you hit some wake I’m sure the prop may come out of the water 2.I would go for a 2 stroke, yes it is louder but on the plus side it is cheaper and lighter, furthermore, if you plan to take your motor home for the winter you don’t have to worry about always keeping it upright. I know that a 4 stroke always has to be placed upright even during transporting 3. I would definitely look into an electric start model. The electric start has saved my a— many times when the motor would stall out in the middle of a channel or mooring and docking.
