I have a 1979 O'Day 25 that I sail on Lake Erie. During heavy weather sailing the outboard will rock back and forth, maybe 1/2 to 1 inch, on its bracket. It drives me nuts!!! The bracket is the original equipment. The transom is solid, the bracket seems solid. Is this "to be expected"? Has anyone experienced this and fixed it? PS: Love the boat...I just can't figure out if it's the perfect "big"-small boat, or the prefect "small"-big boat.

Rock-N-Roll Bracket

You need to determine if the "looseness" is the exterior bracket or in the hull attachment. If its the "exterior" it may be able to be tightened by replacing rivets with bolts and locking nuts. If the "looseness" is at the attachment point, you need to determine why. Loose nuts & bolts? Broken fiberglass bedding? Check inside the transom. In any case the "looseness" should be corrected, or you may become a pure sailboat not a motorsailor!
