Hey folks, with my never ending quest to update and improve my 1970 Cat. 22, I've purchased an older/hardly used 1988 8hp Merc. Mariner long shaft on E-bay for $600.00. Needless to say, I'm excited about replacing the older 1950 7.5hp Evinrude (I think it's finally bit the dust). Well, since I've gotten an outboard in excellent condition, I felt an outboard bracket is also in order so I purchased one along with a new fuel tank and lines from West Marine. Tomorrow I plan to install the bracket however, I'm uncertain if the bracket will fit the original holes correctly. Here is my dilemma: "How should I plug the old holes? Leave the original bolts in with marine sealer?" I'm crossing my fingers at the moment...God, I hope I don't have to drill new holes, etc.I can't think of much more to upgrade this summer. Single hand sailing hardware, new lites/wiring, tiller stay, etc. Ahh, the list of upgrades are endless. Winter will hopefully bring my last project into view, Bottom and Deck repair/paint. My dear old Uncle Bob doesn't know it yet, but his fiberglass/painting skills will be required soon...hehehe. Anyway, tomorrow I'm heading to the lake to work a little (I hope) and sail away the weekend. Who knows, someday I'll finally finish this boat!
