I'm planning on replacing our 30 year old Honda 5 pull start on our '93 23.5 with a new Honda 8 electric start, and I'm wondering what is the best way to route the cable (the battery is in the original location under the starboard settee)? Should I install some sort of plug where the cable passes through from the cockpit to the cabin?

There are a variety of cable glands available for that purpose. Glands are preferable because the wire is continuous which reduces connections which are more prone to corrosion. Be sure to use wire that is large enough to carry the starting current without causing a voltage drop.

I would try to keep it out of the cockpit. I'm not familiar with your boat's configuration... but on my boat it's possible to run the cable under the settee, through the pilot berth to a terminal distribution terminal on the wall of the battery compartment. Perhaps there's a lazerette instead of a pilot berth on your boat. In any event. The idea is to keep it out of the cockpit, you just don't know.

On my H25.5, I installed a plug near the engine. I purchased the plug from a trailer store. I believe it was used on gulf cart battery cables. The contacts were rated 50 AMPS.

Lets determine how many hoses and lines you have and their overall "bundled" diameter before picking out other products. I assume that the whole bundle will be going through the fiberglass. Please state whether or not you ever remove the outboard for storage, travel, etc
