Outboard Battery Connection

I'm planning on replacing our 30 year old Honda 5 pull start on our '93 23.5 with a new Honda 8 electric start, and I'm wondering what is the best way to route the cable (the battery is in the original location under the starboard settee)? Should I install some sort of plug where the cable passes through from the cockpit to the cabin?

There are a variety of cable glands available for that purpose. Glands are preferable because the wire is continuous which reduces connections which are more prone to corrosion. Be sure to use wire that is large enough to carry the starting current without causing a voltage drop.
