I need to replace the outboard bracket for my 8hp Yamaha, before it tears of the present bracket and sinks!! The problem is that the bracket is almost impossible to remove as it must have been mounted before the 2 halves of the boat were joined. All I can think of is to cut a hole in the fuel section to gain entry to the bolts securing the bracket. Anyone any ideas? Anyone know where i can buy a new bracket?

Question

Did you try to crawl into the lazerette? I don't know for sure but on most boats you would be suprised at the access to the transom. r.w.landau

Check out my post in the project forums...

regarding "Installing a fixed VHF and RAM in O'Day 22". Check out the pic of where my RAM mic is installed. A previous owner put in a deckplate in the cockpit transom of my O'Day 22 that allows access to the inner transom compartment without having to crawl into the lazarette. Might work for you too.

Removed and Installed A New Motor Bracket

I crawled down from my port side battery compartment feet first into the lazarette area and was able to extend a long reach with a 1/2 inch long shaft socket wrench (for the nuts) and loosen/tighten to first remove the old motor mount and then insatll a new one. My boat partner was topside to actually remove and install new bracket while I remained below to deal with the bolts, since its a real pain ot get in and out of that lazerette. Overall its a tedious but not impossible job...
