out dated flares

I spoke with a Deputy Fire Marshall for the State of Maryland about what to do with the outdated flares. You can drop them off at the local Fire Marshall's office. In maryland they are located near B.W.I. Airport Cargo building "A". They dispose of them as the same with outdated ammunition.

new year's eve

I live in the country and shot off my old flares with all the other fireworks. I keep some of the old flares. This New Year's eve some of the flares were 10 years old. It also let my wife and I practice with the flare gun and see how high and how long the flares burn. For those concerned with safety it was a wet night with intermittant rain and I shot the flares out over an empty field. The flares were nothing compared to the fireworks that my neighbors was setting off!!!

You can also get in touch with your local fire department or coast guard. They can hold classes on flare use and saftey. It also gives you a way to use those flares and see what they really do.

I'd be a little nervous

I'd be a little nervous given current events to drive anywhere near an airport to try to give them some old flares...Couldn't you do like you do with old fireworks, soak them in water and then throw them out?
