Brian,
I have used the WM CPP for three seasons and bought the PCA Gold. You got me nervous, I was going to clean the hull before painting as usual but removing all the old paint is a big job. I usually pressure wash (2500 PSI) and scrub with a soft brush. Do I have to sand????

I sanded before applying the first coat of PCA gold, but I didn't remove all the CPP, just roughed up the surface with 80 grit and took off any staining from soft growth. I would suggest heavy pressure washing and removing as much of the CPP as possible, it's seems too soft to adhere well to the hull once it dries out.

That is what they sent me, Ultima SR 60. I usually use the SR 40 but certainly won't complain about 60% copper...:D Clearly my situation is not as isolated as the rep led me to believe...
Did they mention if they had fixed the problem with Hydrocoat?

Tom,

See my post #36 where I was told by the sales rep that the Hydrocoat SR was not up to standards for this year and that they would not supply any to me. Instead they have sent me Ultima SR60 and some ablative thinner. I received the paint and thinner yesterday. Now all I need is a weather window to prep and paint. Since they would not supply the Hydrocoat SR bcause the factory was not "happy" with the paint performance, I would infer that there may be a problem with this formulation this year. OTOH, maybe Hydrocoat SR that was manufactured earlier is OK and it is just the paint that is available right now is not good. Your guess is as good as mine.

OK, I guess I deserve that poke! Truth is I have a buddy who is still working and I need him to help remove the cover that goes right down to the waterline. We normally go to the boat and uncover, prep and paint the bottom all on the same trip. Recently I've been waiting for the paint to arrive and now I need to wait until next weekend for my buddy to be available. The boat is 155 miles from where I live,so I really don't want to go down for a day to do some small tasks. Back when we had all that great warm weather in March, I did go down for a few hours one day to do some critical items and get my sails back from my sail-maker. I've also been recovering from knee surgery at the end of February which was limiting my ability to scale ladders and scaffolds.

On top of all that I am a champion procrastinator. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

But you are right,Tom. The last couple of months would have been great. Of course I truly expected some snow in March or April so I didn't want to uncover at the beginning of March. Guess I was wrong there.....

Apparently the New England bottom-fouling critters are made of sterner cloth than their southern cousins. Them and the black flies.
