Just bought a used Hunter 240 - love it! So do the local ospreys. They are now using it as their perch at dusk. They has destroyed the windex by landing on it. Any ideas on how to keep these guys off the mast head? Also any ideas on how to get a new windex installed (aslide from dropping the mast/rigging)?
Thanks for the feedback.

Did your windex have the metal spike sticking up to keep birds off? If not the replacement should. As far as replacement, I guess you could reach the top from a bosun's seat on the main halyard, but I've never tried that.

Just my opinion, but dropping the mast is easier and safer than climbing it. I added a VHF antenna to my H26's masthead by beaching and anchoring my boat stern to shore. I was able to reach the top of the mast by using a step ladder. Just be sure you don't put a lot of your weight on the end of the mast or lean a single ladder (extension ladder) on the end. You may be able to reach it without even having to pull the pin at the base. BrianW

Tim;

Buy the windex with the metal spike that sticks up which works great even on a mail box pos t to keep birds from perching.

Under no circumstances go up in a boson's chair my friend. Drop the mast as it is fast and quick not to mention the fact it is safer. I should know as I deveolped that simple system for Hunter way back when as a dealer who outsold that line of boats over all other dealers. I am the expert here and please heed Brian W's and my advice on dropping the mast. I would rather see you sailing vs. getting hurt.

Thanks for the feedback; ordered a new windex with spike to keep the birds away. I think I can get to the top with a step ladder on my dock at low tide. BTW - great forum for new Hunters sailors!
