O'Day Ospray Toms River
We purchased an Ospray a couple years ago and never titled or registered it as my husband had it garaged to renovate it. Fast forward to now, we went to title here in NJ and it appears we only have a trailer title, not a title for the boat. Not even sure of the year, the plate says Hull #9138, Class #594. Would this boat have had a title? There is no other identifying information on it, such as a vin#, other than this plate. Any advice?

Titles are usually required on all boats 14' LOA and larger, but States vary on this. Most State required titles on these boats starting in 1989 or so, so if you bought it "a couple years ago", the previous owner should have had a title for the boat to sign over to you (however, it its possible that he never titled the boat is he never registered the boat and if he bought the boat prior to the implementation of titles in NJ. Most likely, there wasn't an "original" title from O'DAY for this boat, Hull# 9138 suggests that this OSPRAY may be as old as 1960-1963, long before titles became required, and also long before the 12-digit Hull ID Numbers were required. This boat was the 9138th boat built by O'DAY (actually, at that time..... built FOR O'DAY by Marscot Plastics) and the 594th OSPRAY.

Thank you, I think they had the boat going back to the 70's which I guess means they probably never had a title.
