As crazy as it sounds, have you called Edson? They may be able to help you anyway as I am sure they have heard this question before. It may also be worth calling D&R to see what they know and also if you end up converting to Edson, as they are the only Edson outlet I am aware of. I priced out a pedestal at one point and they were the cheapest source. http://www.drmarine.com/

Hay Bob, thanx for the reply. What is D&R? I have looked at Edson for pads but theirs are different but I will end up calling them and asking a human.

D&R bought a lot of the OEM O'day parts when O'day closed up. I think they bought some Pearson stuff too. Both were built in New England. D&R is the only authorized retailer of Edson close outs and seconds from what I understand. I couldn't find anything at all when I looked for Orion parts, but maybe D&R stashed some or can help you out if you need to convert to Edson on the cheap. I talked to them when I was thinking about buying a Newport 30 and adding a wheel. Due to a bad back I just can't sit in the orientation required to run a tiller anymore. They had the lowest prices, but to be frank, only by a few hundred as I recall. It just isn't worth it to add wheel steering to an old boat unless you do it all yourself. Hopefully, because you have an existing unit, you can adapt most of the Edson stuff and perhaps just swap the pedestal. Is your system cable with a quadrant?

Worst case you might have to make your own. What do the pads look like?

It kind of looks like wood. Any clue what the material is? Maybe you can just insert a shim behind it, say a 1/16-1/8" piece of stainless sheet?
