So, we brought home the P23 Sunday and we've been going through it in the evenings.
We`ve never cooked aboard the 18 so this Orego 3000 is new to us. I`ve been doing the research and it appears I will have to buy 2 rubber gaskets, 2 canisters and alcohol fuel. Total at Defender is north of $220. before tax and shipping .This is making my trusty 2 Burner Coleman propane camp stove pretty attractive on that counter top. I`m aware of propane risks on a boat. Any cheaper Origo prices out there or is Defender the best it get`s? Thanks, Dave

Hello Dave,
Have you looked on ebay for Origo parts?

Haven`t made it there yet. Got a desk full of to do`s right now. Chief is getting the PO on track, he still can`t find the title for the trailer or the boat! Now he`s starting the process of obtaining duplicates. I just got in from his house and started looking at stove stuff for a few minutes. I`ll get to E bay soon, thanks.

(Wanna buy an 18?, you know you miss it!!);)

Canisters are $50 each from Swego.com. We seldom used the covers but you can use anything that covers the openings.

We used to use rubber sink or shower drain covers. They worked well. We needed them to keep the fuel from evaporating.

I bought a like new/never used Origo 1000 (1 burner) stove on craigslist over this past winter for $75.
I would think that there ought to be a lot of used equipment like this that might have been salvaged from the many boats destroyed by h'cane Sandy.
Use the Coleman stove while you do your bargain hunting.

check Baconsails.com for used stuff. They're here in Annapolis. I have the single-burner 1500 for $80. Might still have the gimbles?

Sterno, until you find the cannisters. I purchase denatured alchohol from Home Depot, rather than the "fuel" sold by WM.

The Swedish Origo stoves are great but like you said very pricy. I have one set of Origo pot holders and one set of Contour Cookmate pot holders on my two burner 3000. They are identical. I think the Origo patent must have expired and the Chinese are now making the Cookmate clone for half the price.
It is very important to read the instruction. Remove the canisters and fill them out on deck or on a dock. DO NOT try to fill them in the stove as some idiot did in an earlier post and then wondered why he had an alcohol fire.
I use cheap alcohol purchased at a local Rona hardware store and long handle butane lighter to start it.

Excellent points.
And, to fill a cannister without spilling a drop.....
Just have an empty (clean) soup can handy. Drill a 1/4" hole into the center of the bottom. Place it right over the cannister center and pour in the amount of alcohol you wanted to add.
The fuel will flow down and into the cannister opening at a controlled rate. No hassles. Of course, Always do this with the cold cannister removed from the stove...

Does Cookmate also offer a stove/oven unit similar to the Origo 6000?
