I have a 1982 hunter 22 .I would like to find out the original outboard used on this boat.It appears that the motor mount has been moved down about 5 inches from its old position. Presently I use a 20 inch shaft but the freeboard is so high I cannot stear with the motor and the motor is quite low when the mount is lowered. There is also a water tank but I can find no cleanout(10 to 15 gal my guess).Since this little lady is 20 it is difficult get information. Thanks for any help or suggestions. my e is dixiecolors2@aol.com

Chuck, It sounds like someone lowered the mount.

If an earlier owner used a short shaft OB he probably lowered the mount so the prop was in the water. Makes it a dog to steer. If you raise the mount you will need a extended shaft motor which is now very common. That wasn't the case 20 years ago. The OB choice was up to the owner. I have never heard about a "factory recommended" outboard. Can't help on the water tank. Have a good new year. Ray S/V Scooter

Evinrude

A 1981/82 longshaft Evinrude 7.5 is the engine you seek. Someone moved the bracket I suspect. Must be a real pain in the @$$ with a short shaft.
