Original Main Sail finally ripped

So, I've have the boat out twice so far this year. First time the water pump went belly up and I had to order a new replacement rubber paddle. That was an easy fix.

Yesterday, I tore the original main sail.

I'm two for two this year on major problems.

Just looking for advice on where to buy a new sail for this thing.

Thoughts on repair, perhaps ? If its even for a back up.

I've always "known" that I've had a tall rig, but in measuring the sail, my measurements come out to be somewhere in the middle of what the standard rig and tall rig sails state on website, so I dunno. Any other way to confirm 100% on whether I actually have tall rig? Hull number doesn't seem to give any hints.

I went through this site and got a Doyle sail that I couldn't be happier with.

You can check bacon sails for rig dimensions or buy good used sails...

That's "repairable" if only for a backup sail...

I did one last year with a similar rip, overlapped the rip by a consistant 1/2" and run two rows of wide Zig Zag stiching to hold it together... Then repair/reinforce the leach by a foot or two with a thin strip folded overand double stiched as well...

You should be able to do it with a standard sewing machine as your only going thru 2 to 4 layers....A heavier old all iron machine would be better yet and come in hndy for other sailing related projects...

Not the ultimate solution, and a new/used sail is called for, but I was happy to have a backup (just last week) when a sudden squall shredded the top 1/4 of my new to me/used/e-bay sail and I still had several miles to get back to home port...

Now I have two patched and repaired main sails...but only a $100 invested....(and I'm still sailing....) maybe next year I'll bust out for a real all new sail from Bacon Sails

Thank you all for those links. I don't have a sewing machine, but I have taken it to a sail maker/repair shop. Initial quote for repair is a little over $100. Which I can't complain about. This will at least provide me some time to get a new sail and then I'll also have a back up.
