Does anyone know where the original location of the battery(ies) were on the 37.5?The PO of my boat extensively modified the electrics. I have 2 grp 31 in the bilge and a grp 24 under the port settee.
Hi Bill,I'm not sure if this was the original location, but my batteries were in the starboard cockpit locker on my 1992 37.5 when I bought her. Hope this helps.S/V Wanderlust H37.5
just above the holding tank. Poor installation. Not a good idea and probably not the original location. Nothing to indicate where they were originally that I have seen.
They were in the starboard cockpit locker/lazarette, above the original holding tank. I was an original owner (now sold) so know for sure that was location for that particular model year. I upgraded original batteries (2 Gp 24s) to two 6volt golf cart Trojan 105s in a Blue Seas box for the house bank, and a separate Gp27 starting battery all in that same location.
Are you sure about my boat? There were two 6volt batteries and a group 24. I put in two 4d and one group 31 gel cells. The 4ds are relocated to the center with one port and one starboard. The group 31 is far starboard. The original setup was collapsing the wooden access cover onto the holding tank below. The access cover was supported by two 1 X 2 cleats which were not well attached even if they had been adequate for the weight.I am still not satisfied with the locations of mine. Anybody else have any suggestions on this? I am not sure that the bilge is such a good idea but maybe under the aft bunk would be good. Spring is just around the corner and this is on my list.
I upgraded my battery bank to four six volt golf cart batteries plus the starter which is a lot of weight for that shelf. Mine too is sagging onto the holding tank and the shelf supports aren't adequate to support the weight amplified by the motion of the boat in the stern. As part of a larger project to cut out some water intrusion and rot in the aft bulkhead that I knew was there when I bought the boat last year, I'm having the battery shelf reinforced and glassed in. I think the location is good, but the support under it definitely needs strengthening.Gary WyngardenS/V Wanderlust H37.5
