Organic deck deposits

Help!!
Does anyone have a method to avoid deck droppings? I have tried rubber snakes on the deck (The birds must use these as targets for their bombing raids). I have tried an owl hoisted on a halyard (same results). I'm getting tired of having to hose down the fore deck and the cabin top every time I go out.

I've found live cats work quite well. You can also try rigging trip wires where they roost. String fishing line about an inch above your spreaders, and anywhere else they tend to roost and put a spike at the top of your mast.

From what I've heard, for the predatory decoys to work you need to keep moving them.

1. seal the decks with one of the appropriate seals.

2. use one of the non-skid cleaners to make cleanup an easy chore.

3. cover the boat when you are not using it.

Would one attach the cats to the spreaders or use the main halyard to hoist them up into positon?

Gull Sweep now has a attachment for the boom

Although the boom fitting is a little difficult to attach, I'm going to modify mine, I have not had a single bit of bird poop on my canvas since i installed it (six months)

Try a real snake? Or maybe a gator on board like crocket used to have in Miami Vice.

What works in our marina is a having a family of swans living there... they really hate sharing the marina with any other birds and are very territorial about it.... and they generally don't get on the boats or poop on the boats. It works out quite nicely...but arranging to have a family of swans in your marina is probably not possible.

I've got some mylar tape that's silver on one side and red on the other. It seems to discourage birds pretty well. It came from a garden supply house--they have problems with birds too. I put some on my shrouds, and it works pretty well as a tell-tale too!

Try some old CD's

I saw a boat once that had a bunch of old CD's on strings hanging on it. Seemed to work pretty well. I just consider the bird poop one more of the necessary chores. Goes right along with the leaves and grass clippings that seem to accumulate.
