Anyone have any info, such as times and best location to watch from shore, on the racing next week in Newport?

Newspaper Says:

...That they will be racing between Castle Hill and south of the Newport Bridge. Best viewing advantage will be from Fort Adams. They will be racing every day from June 19 - 26 with the exception on June 23 (layday). I don't know the times, but mid-day is a good chance. My friend was coming over the Newport Bridge on Monday and spotted Alinghi, what looked to be run aground, on the south side of the bridge near Jamestown. Sails were down and the boat was stopped dead and listing.

Is it televised?

I would love to watch that. Anyone know if it will be on cable or internet? Times? Tim R.

Try UBSTrophy.com for information ...

But basically we have Ferrari's racing on a go cart course normally great for Shields and J24s. Currently typical Newport June weather ... Today [thurs] heavy haze/foggy with light winds, yesterday light winds, Tuesday 15+. Monday rain most of the day. Friday Newport to Bermuda in the morning and I think they are going to try a practice race in the afternoon. The course is narrow and only W/L with a SW wind which may be 3 out of 4 days. Both have been out a lot but racing in the east passage is really a tide current event normally and next week obviously the tides are different than this week. Supposed to do two races a day starting about 1:30 which is just about when the on shore wind kicks in ... if it is going to kick in. I'm looking for crew during the week ... Monday, Tuesday Thursday Friday leaving from the Newport Yacht Club. Anyone interested? 401 952 4071. See link for photos.

Vic, Great Site!

... Brought back lots of good memories of the year my dad was at the Navy War College - we lived on Chestnut, a block from Washington. Great photos of First Beach! If only I lived closer - I'd be there to crew! Happy Sailing! David Jones 'Wild Goose'

do the charter thing

I think the charter is the way to go. i teamed up with about 8 people who shared the cost and we had a great day saw the boats close up and had a great lunch. We say the cup trials. watching from the beach is a long way off. This was better that i could have dreamed of.

Pell Bridge is the best seat in the house

I've caught spectacular views of the boats on Thursday afternoon 6/17 and Saturday afternoon 6/19 as I was coming over the Pell Bridge (the one we all call the "Newport bridge") on the way to Portsmouth to wallow in the glories of painting the bottom on my own canoe. Thursday was especially interesting because Narragansett Bay was shrouded in fog and probably the only folks who could see them were those of us above. If someone wanted to seriously view from the bridge there may be a parking lot on the Jamestown side. Ask your friendly toll booth attendant (they really are friendly) if that can be done...
