I just bought a 1994 40.5 Hunter Legend. I have to replace the batteries on the boat and want about 600AH's. I was thinking of buying AGM type batteries but because I am unsure what kind of space I have to mount the batteries I am unsure what size to buy. Example: West Marine lsits 105Ah, 200Ah, and 245Ah each have different dimensions. Can I just buy and fit 3 200Ah batteries? is there a guide that tells you where the best place to put batteries on Hunters? Or maybe I would have to buy 2 200Ah and 2 104Ah batteries to fit? Thats my question? Thanks for your help!! Regards, Tom Mulloy TomMulloy@TomMulloy.com

2 4D & Gp 27

My H380 came with a 4D and Gp24 both wet cell batteries. They were mounted under the settee. Between the batteries, they mounted the AC battery charger. Each battery and the charger had its own compartment. Last summer, I upgraded to 2 4Ds and Gp27 AGMs. I modified the space under the settee to accommodate all the batteries. The 4Ds just fit into the space previously occupied by the single 4D and the charger. Fortunately since they are AGMs they don't require battery boxes; otherwise the space would not accommodate them. I upgraded the charger and relocated it into the hanging locker in the v-berth. The new batteries are DEKA.

battery bank

Tom I've tried the port and stb lazarettes and also extended the space above the bilge where the dedicated engine battery is commonly located. The only problem with the port locker is limiting access to the fuel tank which can be obviated with a remote guage. I'm assuming you have already addressed the increased engine alternator charging needs to accommodate the 600a-h bank. Don

Tom, what do you have on the boat now?...

Did you load test the batteries to determine whether they are EOL? Our P42 came with two 8D wet cell house batteries and one group 27 wet cell starter battery. It also has an 8kw Onan genset. I just replaced the 1800 watt inverter for a 2500 watt. Terry

Tom,,,,,,buy a book.

You sound new to this stuff. You have a lot of choices. You also have to learn about those choices. And you have to plan for future items you might choose to install. Like Don said, have you? There is sooooo much out there. I'm tempted to start typing but I gotta feed the horses. :)

Maybe write a book

Im actually developing a hydrogen fuel cell system into my boat. Reframing the hydrogen. Using elcrotrosis from solar panels. There aint no book out there to help me do that. All I was wondering was if anyone mounted 3 200Ah AGM batteries on a 40.5 Hunter? Thanks for your help, I'll keep looking for a book!
