After reading higgs post bout their close call, I had to post this. Helped a friend bring his boat from Slidell to Pensacola, yesterday. We left Slidell Wed. morning, and made the run to Gulfport. Thursday morning we left Gulfport, bright eyed and bushy tailed for Pensacola. We were hustling right along, and a little over half way figured out we were going way to fast, and would have to make the Pensacola entrance way before first light. Didn't really want to do that, and weren't sure exactly where the marina we were heading for was located. So, slow way down. Slowed to barely steerage way, the the wind went to zip about dark. Motored along at 1300, and were still going to make it before first light. So, the hell with that. Just go ahead at normal cruise, come in and anchor up in the bay. Cool. Were anchored up in Pensacola bay by 2AM. Got up at 5, came into the marina, and were tied up to the fuel dock by 6:15. Very nice trip. No problems, no drama, except to decide not to stay slowed down. It's nice to make a run, have nothing to complain about except getting there too early, or no wind at night.
