I'm considering purchasing a new Genoa for my '91 C28. Any opinions on size (135 vs. 150) and brand? We are mainly interested in day sails in the Santa Monica bay and trips to Catalina from Marina Del Rey.Thanks,Scott
I JUST LOST MY ORIGONAL 135 HEAD SAIL ON MY 1991 28 HULL # 158 DUE TO A WIND STORM WHICH CAUSED THE TOP OF THE SAIL TO UNRAP AND SELF DISTRUCT ON THE SPREADERS. I EMAILED SEVERAL SAILMAKERS AND FOUND SABRE IN FLA.TO HAVE THE BEST PRICE. AROUND $900.00 WITH OPTIONS. YOU CAN ALSO TRY CRUISING DIRECT. I MOSTLY DAY SAIL ON THE HUDSON AND IVE FOUND THE 135% GOOD FOR MOST CONDITIONS. I PLAN TO GET A GENAKER IN THE FUTURE. GOOD LUCK.KEN
Hi Scott -Check out the chandlery here on this site for a quote on sails made by Doyle (see Related link below). There are cheaper options for sure but I know from personal experience that Doyle makes a great sail.Something to consider,Trevor
I ended up buying this sail from Sailexchange.com: Luff=37'4", LP=17'10", foot=18'6", leech=35'6",foam luff for reefing and keeping shape, Leech and foot cords, tell tails, white UV cover, premium Nordac, by Doyle Sails. They have a good return policy so if it doesn't work for my boat I can return. It turns out to be around a 156% Genoa for my C28. Any opinions on whether that's too much sail or is it not a concern since I can reef it in with the Hood Seafurl 705 LD?
