Catalina 30 San Francisco
Just moved to Philadelphia after lifetime on the West Coast. Had to sell Catalina 30 in San Francisco but excited about exploring the Chesapeake. Looking at Pearson 33, 1987, shallow draft. Very few Pearsons on the West Coast so interested in any opinions from Pearson and Catalina owners on pros and cons of Pearson 33 vs. Catalina 34. My wife thinks the Catalina interior is better laid out for cruising so any thought on cruising for a weekend on a Pearson 33? Thanks in advance for the assistance.

Pearson is a good boat.

Honestly, you can't go wrong with a Pearson 33 or a Catalina 34. The Catalina 34 is a great boat and my Uncle has been cruising one all over the Chesapeake for a while now.

Either way, get a good survey on the boat.

David,
I am a bit partial to the Catalina 34. Ours in in the water from April 1st until the end of Nvember. We are on her every weekend from Friday to late Sunday. She sails great, is comfotable for a weekend and our annual 3 week cruise every September.
The Catalina 34 National ( c34.org) site may be the best user support site of any single sailboat on the internet.

Regardless, both boats are fine, but the most important thing is to get out on the water.

David,
Pearson 33, seems like a good solid boat. My brother-in-law sailed one out of San Diego recently until he moved back to Wis. I sailed on it numerous times and thought it handled real well. We keep our Beneteau 381 on the Chesapeake (Herrington South) and there are several Pearson 33s at our marina. I know one of the owners and he seems real happy with his 33 and has sailed it the past 5 seasons. Good luck with the boat hunt. Seems like there are a number of sailboats in that size range on the upper bay market.

Thanks to everyone for the thoughts. Have an offer on the Pearson 33 and hope to be on the Chesapeake in the spring. The admiral is also happy.

Welcome to the Chesapeake Bay. There is a lot of local knowledge on this board so don't be afraid to ask.

Definitely plan trips to Tangier Island, Solomon's Island, St. Michaels, Annapolis, Etc. Lots of great places but the most unique places on the bay is Tangier and Smith Island. It is a Have-to visit!
