OK guys, I can't find anything in the archives to satisfy my question. I constantly see advise here to have a separate and isolated starting battery. I'm wondering if that advise is primarily for larger boats with engines. I have an H26 with a 9.9 O/B. I have often pull started it with no problem whatsoever. In fact when my batteries crapped out this past winter and the O/B sat for several months cold and lonely, it took 3 pulls to start it up. Why can I not, or why SHOULD I not keep my two batteries in parallel and have them both serve as house and starting battery? I would be more inclined to simply disconnect the starter from the bank than to give up house bank. hope this is clear enough. If not ask away and I'll fill in any holes. Oh, I lake sail on weekends with radio, stereo, modest lights and standard wind/depth/speed instruments. I'm probably WAY under-using my system all the way around.

I don't see the need to do it.

I have two gel cels in my 25. I do have a 1,2,both,off switch installed. I have an onboard dual bank charger that charges both batteries from my shorepower connection when plugged in and I can charge both from my 8hp yamaha when running. I leave my switch in the 1 position almost all the time and thus use the first battery for starting and house power. I only switch it if I run the number 1 battery too low to start the motor. I am using about the same amount of electrical equipment you are using. Really though, if your pull start is easily accessible, it doesn't really matter much. To pull start a yamaha electric start, you have to remove the engine cover and then remove 3 or 4 10mm bolts to be able to put a rope pull on it.

That's what I thought. The choke and the pull are both right at the front of the cover. It's almost as easy as bending over and turning the start switch. Heck my caloric expenditure won't even make up for one cheese doddle. Of course all that cleaning trying to get orange off of everything will!
